JAZZ BAND BALL ORCHESTRA
jazz band ball orchestra

The Jazz Band Ball Orchestra is the oldest Polish big band in Poland that performs traditional jazz. It was founded in the fall of 1962, when they were formed by students from the Academy of Music in Cracow.

During the 1962's 9th annual jazz festiwal in Kraków, they awed their audience, and since then they have been partcipating in many jazz festivals in Poland (among others: Jazz Jamboree, Old Meeting Jazz) and abroad (North See Jazz Festival, Dixieland Meeting, Dixieland Jazz Jubilee, and more), as well as tours across the world. From it's founding until today it has enjoyed unflagging popularity.

The music that the Jazz Band Ball Orchestra plays is a mix of swing and blues. Their basis is formed by New Orleans Jazz, but in addition to Jazz standards they also play independent compositions.

The current members of the band are:

  • Jan Kudyk (founder; trumpet and vocalis),

  • Wojtek Groborz (arranger; piano),

  • Wiesław Jamioł (percussion),

  • Teofil Lisiecki (manager; double bass),

  • Jacek Mazur (tenor sax, clarinet and vocals),

  • Marek Michalak (trombone and vocals).

    BOBA JAZZ BAND

BOBA JAZZ BAND plays traditional swing music in its purest form.

Boba The band leader is pianist Jan Boba, whose artistic accomplsiment goes back into the 60's, among others he was the leader of Jazz Band Ball Orchestra for many years. In 1986 president Ronald Reagan awarded Boba a diploma for promoting American culture.  In 1990 he began a band that spanned two generations of musicians. This band advertised itself with his name, and so Boba Jazz Band came to be. In todays composition we have taken part in the most prestigious world festivals, playing together with the most important representatives of European and American jazz, including the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

This year, Jan Boba received the prestigious Jazz Lamb for his contributions to Jazz music in Cracow. The Jazz Lamb is awarded every year at the Summer Jazz Festival at Piwnica Pod Baranami.
