Useful information

Dragon Swing 2011 is from November 10th to 13th. In Poland, Independence Day is celebrated annually on 11th November. It is one of the most important celebrations for Poles, so this day is recognized as a one from bank holiday – day off, shopping centres are closed, public transport functions according to holiday’s timetable.

This year all the workshops, accommodation and the Saturday night party will take place in the same location in the center of Cracow – near Central Railway Station and Old Town, so it is great convenience for guests.

Driving
drivingThere are traffic restriction in the city centre, with many pedestrian and semi-pedestrian zones in the Old Town. Only special permits allow you to drive in inner zones. Parking within the zones from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. requires a special ticket (karta postojowa) which can be bought from a Ruch kiosk in zone P2 and from special parking meters in zone P3 and P1. You mark the date and time, and display it on your wind-screen. Prices: first hour – 3 PLN, second hour – 3,50 PLN, third hour - 4,00 PLN, fourth and next – 3,00 PLN. The minimal charge is 1 PLN and it allows park your car for 20 minutes.
There are 3 zones: P1 – Old Town, P2 – Kazimierz, P3 – Grzegórzki.

Public Transport
Kraków is serviced by 27 tram lines and 137 buses, which make moving around the city (and the neighboring Wieliczka) fairly easy. It is quite a good idea to leave your car outside the city centre and use public transport. Maps of public transport are available on the website of the Municipal Transport Enterprise (MPK): http://www.mpk.krakow.pl/en/, as are the timetables: http://www.mpk.krakow.pl/pl/page-f3044045/ (which can be also found at the bus stops).

All tram and bus tickets must be punched in a ticket machine immediately on boarding a bus or a tram. The validity of timed and daily tickets is specified by the four last digits stamped on your tickets, which show the exact time when you first punched the ticket. If you are using an hourly, 90 min, daily, 2-3 days or weekly ticket you need to punch it only once on your first journey.
Fares:

Within the city, all trams and the buses numbered 100 to 194, 405 to 437 and 501 to 512, use the city fare. In the buses numbered 200 to 304, the same tickets are used to travel within the city and slightly higher fare is paid to travel in the city agglomeration.
